(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) – Looking to bounce back following a tough home match against Woodbridge last weekend, the Cyclones OPL 3 Women’s team hit the road on Saturday for a matchup against Vaughan SC.
The match opened as a tightly contested affair, with both sides putting together strong defensive performances and limiting scoring opportunities. The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Kynlee Cresswell found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, giving the Cyclones a 1-0 advantage. The visitors would carry that lead into halftime after a disciplined opening 45 minutes.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with both teams battling for control and neutralizing each other’s attacking chances. Vaughan eventually found an equalizer in the 74th minute, as a scramble in the Cyclones’ end resulted in an unfortunate own goal that leveled the score at 1-1.
Both sides continued to push for a late winner, but neither could find the decisive goal as the match concluded in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
The OPL 3 Women’s team will return home this weekend looking to get back in the win column when they welcome Oakville Soccer Club to Cambrian College on Saturday, June 27th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
