GREATER SUDBURY, ON – The Sudbury Cyclones Men’s OPL1 team faced a difficult road test on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-1 to Oakville SC at Bronte Athletic Park. Despite a resilient effort and an intense, highly physical second half, the Cyclones were unable to overcome a tough first-half deficit.
Sudbury found themselves under early pressure, with Oakville SC striking three times before the break. Oakville opened the scoring in the 26th minute, followed by a penalty in the 40th minute, and a third strike just before halftime in the 44th minute. The Cyclones headed into the locker room trailing 3-0.
Early in the second half, a fourth consecutive goal by Oakville in the 65th minute gave them a comfortable 4-0 lead. Refusing to back down, the Cyclones continued to fight and quickly responded just two minutes later. In the 67th minute, Daniel Alexa calmly stepped up and buried a penalty kick to put the Cyclones on the board.
Despite an aggressive push from Sudbury until the final whistle, this gritty, physical battle resulting in four yellow cards issued to each side ended 4-1.
With lessons learned and determination building, the Cyclones will look to bounce back this Saturday at home where they will face North Toronto. Come join us at Cambrian College and cheer on your Sudbury Cyclones. All fans will receive a Jaiden Santos sticker.
