(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) – Returning home after an extended road trip, the OPL 1 Men’s Cyclones welcomed the second-place Oakville SC to Cambrian College on Saturday afternoon.
The Cyclones came out with energy on home turf, matching Oakville stride for stride in a tightly contested opening half. Both sides created chances, but strong defensive play and solid goalkeeping kept the match scoreless heading into halftime.
It was Oakville that broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, finding the back of the net in the 47th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cyclones responded well, continuing to apply pressure before being rewarded in the 59th minute when Tomas Joseph scored his first goal of the season to level the match at 1-1.
The visitors regained the advantage in the 70th minute, capitalizing on an opportunity to restore their one-goal lead. Despite a determined push from the Cyclones over the final 20 minutes, the equalizer never came, as Oakville held on for a 2-1 victory.
The Cyclones will look to bounce back this Friday, July 3, when they remain at Cambrian College to host Unionville Milliken FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
