Cyclones Battle to 3-3 Draw with Oakville SC

(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) – Returning home after earning a draw on the road in Vaughan, the OPL 3 Women’s Cyclones welcomed Oakville SC to Cambrian College on Saturday.

The Cyclones came out flying on home turf, opening the scoring in the 16th minute as Emma Meadows found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. The home side continued to dictate play and doubled its advantage in the 32nd minute when Brooke Dugas also recorded her first goal of the season, giving the Cyclones a commanding 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Looking to build on their momentum in the second half, the Cyclones continued to press the attack and were rewarded in the 64th minute when Yvonne Barnes buried her first goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-0.

With the match seemingly under control, Oakville began to mount a comeback. The visitors got on the board in the 69th minute before adding goals in the 72nd and 79th minutes to erase the three-goal deficit and level the match at 3-3.

Despite both teams searching for a late winner, neither side could find the breakthrough, as the match ended in a hard-fought draw.

The OPL 3 Women’s Cyclones will now turn their attention to another road test as they travel to face Rush Canada Academy on Sunday, July 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
