(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Cyclones take the field at James Jerome Sports Complex this Saturday, April 26th for a doubleheader of soccer action. The women’s team takes on Pickering FC L2 Women at 2:00 PM, followed by the men’s team facing Pickering FC at 7:00 PM.
This will be the first match of the League2 Northeast season for the Sudbury Cyclones women’s team. Not only that, it is a historic day in Sudbury as the first professional women’s team in the city plays their inaugural game on Sudbury turf. The squad includes several local players, such as forwards Serena San Cartier and Kiara Levac, midfielders Brooke Dugas, Allie Weiler, Tamara Cayen and Natasia San Cartier, and defenders Kiana Levac, Emily Winsor, Kaja Beljo, McKenna Cresswell, Arijana Tuttle and Makayla Bertrand. In addition, the squad has international experience with midfielder Emma Meadows, and an accomplished OUA star in striker Cassidy Brooks. See them in action on Saturday, April 26th at 2:00 PM.
The Sudbury Cyclones men’s team enters Saturday after opening the League1 Championship season with a 1-0 win at York United Academy, avenging their Cup loss to the same club in the process. Local wingback Brandon Moxam scored the lone goal for the Cyclones in the 23rd minute, with the Cyclones locking the match down in the second half. Returning goalkeeper Lucas Cidade secured the clean sheet, helping to prove why the Cyclones had a league-best seven clean sheets last season. The match proved to be a scrappy affair between two familiar squads, with the Cyclones showing their resilience. They’ll look to continue the momentum as they face Pickering FC this Saturday, April 26th at 7:00 PM.
