(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) – The Sudbury Cyclones are proud to announce the signing of 11 more players, including four defenders, three midfielders, two attackers, and two goalkeepers to the roster for the upcoming 2024 season.
As the Sudbury Cyclones prepare for their inaugural season the team roster is rounding into form. Following a series of trials the Cyclones are excited about the talent acquired, including defenders Ethan Mendes, Jaden Timmis, David Setters and Rohan Henry, midfielders Lucas Spirkoski, Brandon Moxam and Cedric Devos, attackers Timi Aliu and Douvoy Bromfield, and goalkeepers Josh Bondoc and Luca Cidade.
Ethan Mendes, a full-back from Markham, Ontario, was a member of the Algoma University Varsity Soccer team for the past three seasons, where he made 30 appearances. He tallied 3 goals during his career. In 2022-2023, Ethan was named the defensive player of the year for Algoma, while being named a co-captain in 2023-2024. He was named an Academic All Canadian in each of his three seasons. Additionally, Ethan has been a member of the Masters Futbol Academy for the last 5 years.
Jaden Timmis is a center-back from Manchester, United Kingdom. Jaden has an impressive football resume, spending time in the youth academies of both Everton FC (Premier League) and Salford City (League two) before moving to Ontario. This past year, Jaden was a freshman at Algoma University, where he started 9 games.
David Setters is a full-back from Muntinlupa, Philippines and has a stellar football career thus far, spending time in youth football in England, while representing his country on the international stage. In 2022 Setters joined Portsmouth FC, where he spent a season with the U18 team. In 2022 Setters was called up to the Philippines U23 team, where he represented his country on multiple occasions. In 2023 Setters moved to Canada, attending Algoma University, where he made 4 appearances this past season.
Rohan Henry a defender from Toronto, Ontario has experience in the lower levels of Ontario soccer, as he was a product of the Alliance United youth academy. After his U21 season in 2022, Rohan committed to Laurentian University, where he appeared in 9 games this past season, starting in all 9. Standing at 6’2”, Rohan is a necessary presence in the backline.
Lucas Spirkoski is a midfielder from Ajax, Ontario and was a member of the Algoma University Varsity Soccer team for the past three seasons, where he made 30 appearances, starting 24 games. Lucas tallied 1 goal in his university career.
Brandon Moxam is a midfielder from Sudbury, Ontario. The Sudbury local has established himself across the globe including a strong OUA career, as well as a stint in professional soccer in Spain. Moxam spent time with both Cambrian College and Laurentian University, making a total of 33 appearances, while tallying 3 goals and 3 assists during his career. Brandon recently signed professionally in Spain, where he played for Albriex Niigata Barcelona.
Cedric Devos is a midfielder from Ottawa, Ontario who has spent the previous three seasons representing Nipissing University, where he made a total of 32 appearances, including 29 starts. Cedric is widely regarded as a talented player, and that was on display during his time at Nipissing. He tallied a total of 6 goals, and 6 assists during his OUA career.
Duovoy Bromfield is an attacker from Calgary, Alberta. Duovoy was born and raised in Jamaica and moved to Canada to pursue soccer at Algoma University. In three years at Algoma, Duovoy made 22 appearances, while finding the back of the net 2 times during his career.
Timi Aliu is an attacker from Brampton, Ontario. He has been a member of the Laurentian Men’s soccer team for the past three seasons, where he made a total of 32 appearances. During his time at Laurentian, Timi found the back of the net 7 times, 4 of which came this season, making him the team’s top scorer. Aliu was named a OUA East Division second team All-Star for his efforts in 2023-2024.
Josh Bondoc is a goalkeeper from Toronto, Ontario with a career that includes stops at Vaughan SC and the Athlete Institute FC, where he split his time during his youth days. Josh committed to Algoma University in 2022 and has since made 16 appearances. In his freshman campaign in 2022-23, Josh was named the Algoma Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year. This past season in 11 starts, Josh led the OUA in saves, with 56, a tally which also placed him third in all of U-Sports.
Luca Cidade is a goalkeeper from Toronto, Ontario who began his youth career with the York Jets, before committing to York University in 2019-2020. He transferred to Nipissing University Following his freshman year, before moving to Laurentian University in 2022. In his two seasons at Laurentian, Luca made 51 saves, in a total of 13 appearances, a figure that made him the leader for the OUA East Division.
