Cyclones Chase The Game Early, Lose 5-0 to Rush Canada Academy

(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) – The OPL 3 Women’s Cyclones travelled to Sheridan to face Rush Canada Academy, following a 3-3 draw at home against Oakville. 

The Cyclones faced a tough challenge on the road, falling 5-0 to Rush Academy after the hosts capitalized on two quick scoring bursts.

Rush Academy opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Sierra Moretto found the back of the net. Just six minutes later, Sofia Raco doubled the advantage, giving the home side a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. 

Looking to respond after the break, the Cyclones continued to battle, but Rush Academy struck again in the 55th minute when Raco netted her second goal of the match. The hosts wasted little time adding to their lead, as Shiloh Goodwin scored just two minutes later in the 57th minute to make it 4-0. Camila Blanco rounded out the scoring in the 61st minute, securing a 5-0 victory for Rush Academy.

Despite the result, the Cyclones continued to compete until the final whistle and will look to regroup as they prepare for their next match.

The OPL 3 Women’s Cyclones have an action-packed week ahead as they return home for a back-to-back. The first of the two games is on Saturday, June 11th, when they take on Scrosoppi FC with kick-off set for 3:30 p.m. The Cyclones will then wrap up the back-to-back on Sunday, July 12th, as they play host to Richmond Hill FC with kickoff at 1:00 p.m.
