Cyclones Earn Dramatic 2-1 Victory Over Scrosoppi FC

(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) – The Sudbury Cyclones OPL1 Men’s side remained at Cambrian College on Saturday to host second-place Scrosoppi FC in a challenging matchup, looking to snap their recent skid and get back into the win column.

The opening half was a tightly contested affair, with the Cyclones matching one of the league’s top teams stride for stride. Their hard work paid off in the 33rd minute when Dominic Paris found the back of the net for his third goal of the season, giving Sudbury a 1-0 lead.

The advantage was short-lived, however, as Scrosoppi responded just minutes later. A fortunate bounce off a Cyclones defender redirected the ball into the net, resulting in an own goal that levelled the match at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The second half mirrored the first, with both sides delivering disciplined defensive performances and limiting quality scoring chances. As it appeared the points would be shared, the Cyclones found their breakthrough in stoppage time. A long throw-in into the penalty area created a scramble in front of goal, where Jaiden Santo reacted quickest to bury his fifth goal of the season and secure a dramatic 2-1 victory for Sudbury.

The home victory gives the Cyclones valuable momentum as they prepare to host Vaughan SC on Wednesday, July 15, at Cambrian College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday’s match also marks the Cyclones’ highly anticipated Heineken Hurricane Game. Fans can enjoy an exciting matchday atmosphere featuring music, games, prizes, and more, while also having the opportunity to enter for a chance to win a trip to Europe to attend a UEFA match.

Following Wednesday’s match, the Cyclones will hit the road Saturday, July 18th, when they travel to face Burlington SC. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
