(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Cyclones will host three home matches this week, as all the squads enter some key fixtures near the end of the season. The Cyclones men will kick off home action on Wednesday, July 9th at 7:30 p.m., welcoming York United Academy to Cambrian. Saturday, July 12th at 7:00 p.m. will see the Cyclones women face Master’s FA at Cambrian, and finally on Sunday, July 13th at 2:00 p.m., the Cyclones L2 men will take the Laurentian pitch to play Vaughan Azzurri L2.
The Cyclones men stayed in form this past Saturday, securing a 3-2 win against North Mississauga SC. An early through ball forced a North Mississauga defender to earn a red card as the last man back, instantly changing the match. Striker Timi Aliu capitalizes with the 10-men opponents with a 22nd minute goal, only for North Mississauga to answer, entering halftime with a 1-1 draw. Aliu would head home his second of the match, along with Jaiden Santo providing the decisive third goal, as the Cyclones would hold on to the 3-2 scoreline.
Sitting first in the table with a four-point lead on second place The Borough FC, the Cyclones face a York United Academy who lay claim to fourth, owning a 5-4-4 record. The Cyclones men following Wednesday’s match will prepare for a road fixture against Windsor City FC on Sunday, July 13th at 3:00 p.m..
The Cyclones women earned three points in the first half of Saturday’s doubleheader with a thrilling comeback 2-1 win. Entering the half with a 0-0 draw, Simcoe County scored in the 55th to go up 1-0. With 11 minutes remaining in the match, Cassidy Brooks capitalized on a Simcoe County error to tie the match at 1 and followed up with an amazing solo effort and finish in extra time to score a brace and earn the Cyclones the win. At 5-6-0, they’ll face a Master’s FA side on Saturday with an 0-8-2 record.
The Cyclones L2 men earned a point last Sunday against The Borough FC, as a first half Caelan Walraven goal proved enough to earn a result. The L2 men will now prepare for a big matchup on Sunday at Laurentian University, as they’ll face top of the table Vaughan Azzurri L2, who are unbeaten at 10-0-1.
