(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Cyclones’ women are in action this Saturday, May 31st at 7:00 p.m. at James Jerome, where they have a fixture set against Whitby FC L2 in League2 Northeast action.
The Cyclones women returned home last Saturday against Vaughan Azzurri L2, providing a spirited effort in a 4-2 defeat. Captain Cassidy Brooks continued her scoring ways, providing both goals for the Cyclones, and now sitting tied for first in League2 Northeast scoring. With a 1-4-0 record, the Cyclones women move on to a 2-2-1 Whitby FC L2 side who are in form, winning their last two matches.
The Cyclones men start the week of Cyclones action, albeit on the road, as they travel to face North Mississauga SC on Friday, May 30th at 9:00 p.m.. Holding a record of 4-0-2, the Cyclones men remain undefeated, and three points clear at the top of the League1 Championship table. Last week provided a pivotal win for the squad, with a 2-1 win at Whitby in a rematch of two squads that played the previous Saturday at James Jerome. Jaiden Santo opened the scoring in the 13th minute, as the Cyclones entered the half up 1-0. Entering the second half, Sudbury native Blake Rosener came on, and in just eight minutes extended the Cyclones lead to two. Even with a late Whitby goal, the Cyclones held on to win on the road against a strong Whitby squad. North Mississauga SC on Friday will provide another test, as the two sides sit first and second in the League1 Championship respectively.
The Cyclones L2 men finish the week of Cyclones soccer on the road, as they face Vaughan Azzurri L2 on Sunday, June 1st at 1:00 p.m.. Capitalizing on their best effort of the season, the Cyclones L2 men earned their first win of the season this past Saturday, defeating The Borough FC L2, 2-1. With no goals in the first half, The Borough FC L2 broke through in the 55th minute, putting the Cyclones down one. In the 70th minute, the Cyclones struck back. Goals by Josiah Stone in the 70th, and Maliq Olanrewaju in the 73rd vaulted the squad to a comeback win. Now with a record of 1-2-1, they look to build off this momentum as they face a Vaughan squad with a perfect 6-0-0 record.
